Sunday’s Gospel has always been a favorite because it reminds me there is more to focus on our journey: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things [food, clothing, etc] will be given you besides. Don’t worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself…can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span?” (Matthew 6:24-34).
Jesus cuts right to the heart and reminds us where we need to focus our energy and attention. Food, clothing, yes, these are all important and we must ensure we have the basic necessities, but rather than worry about keeping up with secular society, we are better served following Christ. He “will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will manifest the motives of our hearts.”
Psalm 62 consoles us “Only in God is my soul at rest; from him comes my salvation…only in God be at rest, my soul, for from him comes my hope…I shall not be disturbed.”
