When was the last time you withdrew to a lonely place apart? Jesus does numerous times throughout the four Gospels. One of my favorite passages in Scripture is where we are invited to this experience in the Gospel of St. Matthew, Chapter 14. The first thing revealed to us is a glimpse of Jesus' human … Continue reading A Lonely Place Apart
Lectio Divina
Lectio Divina is a traditional monastic practice of scriptural reading, meditation and prayer intended to promote communion with God and to increase the knowledge of God’s word. Through this practice I have come to be inspired to share the fruit of such reading and mediation on scripture.
Wanderlust
Wanderlust. A strong desire to travel. Think of your last trip. The excitement of seeing a new place. The very act of traveling itself whether by plane, train, automobile. Watching the miles pass by. In motion. On a mission. Dare I say, on a pilgrimage? Traveling beyond our boundaries taps into a primitive yearning I … Continue reading Wanderlust
Listen to Him
Last week, as we entered Lent, Jesus was led to the desert; dry, hot, and barren. This week we are led up the mountain to pray (Luke 9:28-36). Up here we are provided a glimpse of Jesus' divinity. It is dazzling. So much so the disciples did not want to leave. They delayed the descent … Continue reading Listen to Him
Divine Providence-The Essentials
In three previous posts I went through the acts of faith, hope, and charity in God's Divine Providence. This is one of the key graces we must keep close to our soul at all times as we travel down the road. "May your mercy, O Lord, rest upon me. O Jesus, I want to live in the present moment, to live as if this were the last day of my life. I want to use every moment scrupulously for the greater glory of God, to use every circumstance for the benefit of my soul. I want … Continue reading Present Moment
Restful Waters
Today's readings included passages from the prophet Jeremiah. Consoling food for thought: "Blessed are those who trust in the Lord; the Lord will be their trust. For those on the path of righteousness there is joy in knowing that in the end the … Continue reading The Plans of Man
Psalm 6
"The Lord has heard my supplication; the Lord accepts my prayer." (Psalm 6:9) If you recently prayed or recently made a request to God for whatever reason, take comfort in this passage from Psalms. God has heard you. He is working for you. Do not doubt. Have faith.
Psalm 5
"Lead me, o Lord, in thy righteousness because of my enemies; make thy way straight before me." (Psalm 5:8) Stay the course. Enemies will always pursue you, especially the evil spirit. Don't waiver in righteousness because of them. Peacefully, calmly ask The Good Lord will make clear your path. He will show you.
Doubt or Faith during the Fourth Watch
When all hope is lost during the dark night of the soul, we can call out Lord, Save me. And if we have faith, and do not doubt, we will see light on the horizon.
